Day 1 - Tashkent

Upon arrival at Tashkent Airport, the Golden Eagle team will warmly welcome you and provide transportation to your luxurious five-star hotel located in the heart of the city, where you'll stay for one night.

In the evening, you'll have the pleasure of joining a delightful welcome reception and dinner, offering the perfect chance to mingle with your fellow travellers and discuss the wonders that await you

Tashkent
Day 2 - Tashkent

Following a relaxed morning, your exploration of the vibrant Uzbekistan capital, Tashkent, commences. This ancient city, with a history spanning over 2,200 years, marries the allure of medieval architecture with sleek modern structures. Today's itinerary features must-see landmarks such as the magnificent Khasti-Imam Complex, the culturally significant Independence Square, and the opulent former residence of Imperial Russian diplomat Alexander Polovtsev, now home to the Applied Arts Museum.

As the early evening sets in, you will make your way to the train station. Relish a champagne reception complete with the soundtrack of a Karnay-Surnay performance, a traditional musical ensemble featuring national wind instruments, on the platform. This marks your warm welcome aboard the Golden Eagle luxury train. Raise a toast to the Journey of a Lifetime as you savour a sumptuous Welcome Dinner in the exquisitely adorned Restaurant Car, setting the stage for your departure towards the captivating Fergana Valley.

Day 3 - Fergana Valley

As the morning sun bathes the landscape, your journey brings you to the historic city of Kokand, nestled within the picturesque Fergana Valley.

Kokand, one of Uzbekistan's oldest cities, holds a pivotal place in the history of the Silk Road, serving as a crucial trading hub. Your exploration of this enchanting city unveils the grandeur of the Palace of Khudayar Khan, often referred to as the "Pearl of Kokand," as well as the impressive Jami Mosque.

Next, embark on a coach journey to Rishtan, a globally renowned centre for ceramics, where the ancient craft's secrets are unveiled by the skilled local artisan, Rustam Usmanov.

A truly unique experience awaits in Margilan, a once-thriving crossroads for trade between China and the Western world. This city is celebrated for its exquisite handcrafted silk products, making it the perfect setting to immerse yourself in the art of silk weaving. Visit a craftsman's workshop and studio to gain insight into this ancient and intricate craft.

Day 4 - Navoi

Nestled in the southern reaches of the Karatau Mountain range, approximately 30 kilometres from Navoi, lies the captivating Sarmish-Say Gorge. This natural wonder spans a 2-kilometre radius and boasts a staggering 4,000 petroglyphs, each offering a unique window into the past. These ancient artworks vary in style, reflecting their origins: those from the early Iron Age display a distinct 'animalistic' flair, while those hailing from the Neolithic and Mesolithic eras depict scenes of prehistoric local rituals and daily life.

After immersing yourself in the historical richness of these monuments, savour an open-air barbecue feast alongside a folklore performance. Uzbekistan's folklore is a mesmerising representation of Central Asian cultural vibrancy, characterised by its lyrical beauty and hauntingly ritualistic melodies. Witnessing a folklore performance is a truly enchanting experience that encapsulates the magic of the region's traditions

Day 5 - Nukus

Nukus, a city situated in the northwestern part of Uzbekistan, finds itself enveloped by the vast expanse of three deserts: the Kara Kum, Kyzyl Kum, and Ustyurt. As a result, this city offers an unspoiled and captivating landscape characterised by endless stretches of sandy vistas, majestic dunes, and towering peaks.

After a leisurely breakfast, your journey continues with a visit to the Igor Savitsky State Museum of Fine Arts and Regional Archaeology in Nukus. Often referred to as the 'Louvre in the Sands,' this museum is home to Central Asia's most extensive art collection, showcasing a treasure trove of over 100,000 avant-garde masterpieces and traditional crafts from the Karakalpak region.

In the afternoon, you are invited to savour a delightful afternoon tea experience on board the Golden Eagle luxury train as you make your way towards Khiva, with an early evening arrival.

Bar/Lounge Car
Day 6 - Khiva

Day 6 begins with a walking tour of the ancient city of Khiva. Traced back to the 10th century, Khiva is a “city museum”, magnificently adorned with majestic buildings, spiralling columns and beautifully carved doors.

Rooted in its ties with the Silk Road, Khiva has an eclectic culinary identity – heavily influenced by Chinese, Turkish and Persian traditions. After a walking tour of the city, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and taste the Khorezmian cuisine. A highlight of this meal is likely to be the green pasta ‘shivit oshi’, tuhum-barak (a fluffy dough-filled dish) and fresh fish sourced from the Amu Darya river with freshly baked bread. After lunch, continue to explore Khiva with a visit to the Palace of Nurrullah Bai. Built in 1912, the Palace is extravagantly adorned with bronze chandeliers, crystal pendants, and Venetian mirrors.

Day 7 - Bukhara

Legend has it that the city of Bukhara traces its origins back to the 5th century BC, when it was founded by the Persian Prince Siyavush. This city stands as a veritable treasure chest of historical landmarks and architectural wonders, many of which have been impeccably preserved. Your journey kicks off with a visit to the magnificent Sitorai Mokhi-Khosa Palace, which translates to 'a palace-like stars and moon,' followed by explorations of the captivating Chor Minor Madrasa, the ethereal Ismail Samani mausoleum, and the grand Bayland Mosque.

Following a delectable lunch at a local restaurant, set out to the Shukhov Tower. A lift ride takes us to the observation tower's summit, offering unparalleled vistas of the Old Town of Bukhara. Your afternoon culminates with a visit to the awe-inspiring Ark Fortress, a "Noble Abode" that perfectly encapsulates the oriental allure of Uzbekistan.

In the evening, treat your taste buds to the finest Bukharian cuisine at the rooftop restaurant of the Minorai Kalon Hotel. From this splendid vantage point, relish the breathtaking views of Kalyan Square as the sun sets.

Day 8 - Bukhara

The city of Bukhara seamlessly weaves together the tapestry of modern life with ancient architecture, creating an otherworldly allure that captivates all who visit.
Your morning unfolds with a visit to the vibrant Lyabi Hauz Square, a bustling social hub centred around a tranquil pool, shaded by the lush canopies of mulberry trees and surrounded by local tearooms.

Later on, you will experience the UNESCO-designated site of Magoki Attori, the majestic Kalyan Square, and the iconic Kalyan Mosque. With its traditional design, featuring spacious maksura rooms, pillar-domed galleries, and deeply recessed niches, a stroll through this site is like stepping back in time to an era long gone. Following a delightful lunch in the Lyabi-Hauz area, you'll have the freedom to discover more of Bukhara at your own pace. Take the opportunity to visit the charming bazaars adorning Lyabi-Hauz Square or indulge in the flavours of the "Chaihanas" tearooms.

The evening brings a unique experience on the train platform with a traditional Uzbek barbecue. The tantalizing aromas of freshly grilled delights have tantalized your senses as you've roamed the streets of Uzbekistan and now it's time to sample these mouthwatering dishes.

Day 9 - Samarkand

Samarkand, often referred to as the 'Crossroad of Culture,' boasts a captivating history that spans over two and a half millennia. Remarkably, this city stands as a living testament to the renowned dynasties that have left their mark, including Genghis Khan, the Temurids, and the Russians.

Today's exploration continues with a visit to the awe-inspiring Ulugh Beg Observatory, an architectural marvel and the largest pre-modern era observatory. You'll then venture to the visually striking Shakhi Zinda Necropolis, immersing yourself in the city's rich history. Following this, step into the Meros Paper Mill, where you'll gain insights into the ancient craft of papermaking, witnessing centuries-old processes and the fascinating machinery up close.

Your journey into the heart of Uzbek identity continues with a cooking demonstration centred around Plov. As Uzbekistan's national dish, Plov holds a special place in the country's cultural fabric and is a beloved staple at social gatherings, making this culinary experience a true immersion into local traditions.

Day 10 - Samarkand

Your second day in Samarkand unfolds with a visit to the Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum, which serves as the final resting place of Leader Timur. This beautiful structure features a distinctively fluted azure dome and a magnificent portal. After lunch, you'll have the opportunity to test your local knowledge and try your hand at bargaining at the renowned Siab Bazaar. Covering 5 hectares of trading stalls and offering over 17 varieties of Samarkand bread, this bustling oriental market is a vibrant hub of activity.

Not far from here, you'll encounter the majestic Bibi-Khanym, a monument celebrated for its sheer size and beauty, often likened to the gates of heaven. With its intricately carved marble structures, graceful minarets, and shimmering gold-adorned walls, such a comparison is entirely fitting.

In the late afternoon, you'll return to the train for an onboard gala Farewell Dinner as the Golden Eagle departs for Tashkent.

Day 11 - Tashkent

After you arrive in Tashkent, your private transfer will be waiting to transfer you to Tashkent airport for your return flights home.
