Day 1 – Edinburgh:

This Grand Highland journey begins as you board the train at Edinburgh Waverley Station. In the early afternoon, your adventure takes you westward through Falkirk, Clydebank, and Dumbarton, ultimately arriving at the northern bank of the Clyde. This is where Craigendoran awaits, marking the beginning of the splendid West Highland Line.

Savour an afternoon tea as you travel alongside the serene Gare Loch. Loch Long appears to your left, disappearing for just a moment, before re-emerging with a stunning view of Ben Arthur (The Cobbler), renowned for its unique peak. As you pass Arrochar, your first glimpse of Loch Lomond comes into view. The train descends nearly to the water's edge at Ardlui before making a steep ascent up Glen Falloch, where numerous waterfalls create a breathtaking spectacle.

Continuing northward, the train traverses through Crianlarich and the picturesque Rannoch Moor. As you journey towards Spean Bridge, a delightful dinner awaits. Our talented chef serves exquisite dishes featuring the finest line-caught wild salmon, Shetland lobster, and Aberdeen Angus beef, accompanied by locally foraged chanterelles and wild garlic straight from Scotland’s untamed bounty.

After your meal, enjoy vibrant entertainment in the Observation Car. With a maximum of 40 guests on board, expect a warm sense of community and camaraderie, best celebrated over a local dram.

Day 2 – Spean Bridge:

As the train journeys west, passing through Fort William, be sure to take in the stunning views of Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the UK at 1,344 meters. You’ll skirt Loch Eil before encountering the impressive viaduct at Glenfinnan and Lochailort. Then, the train will turn north along the dramatic coastline towards Arisaig. Step off here for a delightful stroll along the Silver Sands of Morar—renowned for its pristine white beaches—while taking in the romantic vistas across the Sound of Sleat towards the Isle of Skye and the rugged Cuillin Mountains.

Onboard, you'll be served lunch as the train retraces its route back to Fort William. Here, embark on an intriguing visit to Glenfinnan, where a local guide will regale you with tales of Bonnie Prince Charlie and other legendary Scottish figures. Afterwards, enjoy drinks and light bites at the cosy bar of The Old Station Restaurant. In the evening, take a short walk to Spean Bridge Station, where the Royal Scotsman train awaits.

Alternatively, a guided hike is available, weather permitting. A mountain ranger will lead a moderately graded walk through the picturesque Nevis Gorge to Steall Waterfall, the second highest in the UK. Please note that a reasonable level of fitness is necessary. Sturdy walking boots with good tread and ankle support, a waterproof jacket, and appropriate trousers are essential. Walking boots and waterproofs can be provided, subject to availability.

Return to the train in Fort William and unwind. Dinner will be served as you travel south towards the quaint Argyll village of Bridge of Orchy. After your meal, treat yourself to a nightcap while enjoying the evening entertainment in the Observation Car. At the end of the night, surrender to the allure of your plush bedding and the inviting wood panelling of your cabin.

Day 3 - Bridge of Orchy

This morning, depart from Bridge of Orchy and immerse yourself in the breathtaking Highland scenery as you head south towards Glasgow and the west coast. After a delightful lunch, you will disembark at Wemyss Bay, where you'll board the ferry for a scenic 35-minute crossing to the Isle of Bute. From St. Blane's Chapel to the remnants of abandoned townships in Glen More, each stone tells its own story.

Your visit includes Mount Stuart, renowned as Britain's most stunning Victorian Gothic house, crafted by the 3rd Marquess of Bute and his architect, Sir Robert Rowand Anderson. The mansion boasts mysterious and captivating interiors that reflect the marquess's enthusiasm for art, astrology, and mythology, housing one of Scotland's finest privately held collections of family portraits.

After an afternoon tea in the Drawing Room, take the opportunity to explore the magnificent house and its grounds. Stroll along Lime Tree Avenue to uncover a tranquil stretch of coastline and enjoy unmatched views of the mainland.

Afterwards, return to the train at Wemyss Bay, where a delicious dinner awaits as you journey to Kilmarnock, your resting place for the night. Unwind in the Observation Car with a cup of coffee, liqueurs, and the soothing sounds of traditional Scottish music.

Day 4 - Kilmarnock

After an early departure from Kilmarnock this morning, savour a leisurely breakfast as you head east toward Edinburgh.

Upon arrival in Edinburgh, you will be guided to The Royal Yacht Britannia. Enjoy a guided tour through its five magnificent decks, and then return to the train for a light lunch on board. Alternatively, you may choose to explore the vibrant capital city of Scotland at your own pace.

In the early afternoon, continue your journey north to the charming 'Fair City' of Perth. Take your time to enjoy afternoon tea as the train travels along the Highland line, passing through Dunkeld, Pitlochry, and the striking Blair Atholl, known for its impressive white castle.

As you venture further north into the Highlands, the rolling hills of Perthshire give way to breathtaking peaks and valleys. Glide past Aviemore, the gateway to the stunning Cairngorms National Park, and make your way to the village of Boat of Garten on the private Strathspey Railway. The train will pause here for the night, enveloped in the serene beauty of the Cairngorms. Dinner will be served, followed by delightful entertainment in the Observation Car.

Day 5 - Boat of Garten

This morning, embark on a short coach ride to Rothiemurchus Estate. You can choose from a variety of activities, including clay pigeon shooting, fishing, or taking a guided tour of the estate led by one of the park rangers. Experience a warm welcome from your hosts as refreshments are served in their hunting lodge, and delve into the rich history of this family-run estate.

Afterwards, return to the train in Carrbridge for lunch before disembarking in Inverness to explore Culloden Battlefield, the site of the last major battle fought on British soil in 1746 — a pivotal event that transformed life in the Highlands forever.

From Nairn on the Moray Firth, head east towards Keith. Enjoy an early evening visit to Strathisla Distillery, where you'll learn about one of the oldest operating distilleries in the Highlands and the malt used in one of Scotland's most renowned blends, Chivas Regal.

As the train tracks return to the coast, take in the breathtaking views while travelling south through Aberdeenshire and Angus. Conclude your day with a splendid gala dinner, then unwind in the now-familiar Observation Car over coffee, liqueurs, and the lively sounds of Scottish tunes.

Day 6 - Dundee to Edinburgh

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast as the train returns to Edinburgh, where your journey concludes.
