Your journey begins as we depart from Edinburgh Waverley Station and head through picturesque scenery. Afternoon tea is served on board after which you are free to enjoy leisure time admiring the views passing by, exploring the train or settling in your private cabin. Later that evening, enjoy an informal dinner followed by entertainment in the Observation Car
Today, the train travels west along the Moray Firth to Inverness. Lunch is served en route to Kyle of Lochalsh through Loch Luichart and the dramatic Torridon mountains. In Plockton, take a boat trip to see wild seals, enjoy a woodland walk and a traditional Highland welcome at the Plockton Hotel. Return to the train for a formal dinner, followed by coffee and liqueurs in the Observation Car.
If you wish, you can start your day with an early-morning walk over the bridge to the Isle of Skye. Then, enjoy breakfast onboard as the train retraces part of yesterday’s route via the Beauly Firth and Caledonian Canal to Inverness. Disembark in Garve for shopping or a walk guided by a Highland Storyteller. After lunch, visit Ballindalloch Castle or its single-estate distillery, then return to the train for informal dinner and live music in the Observation Car.
After another delicious breakfast on board, visit Rothiemurchus Estate in the Cairngorms for activities such as fishing, clay shooting, or an estate tour, followed by refreshments. Return to the train in Kingussie for lunch, then visit Glamis Castle at Dunkeld. Rejoin the train in Perth for a formal dinner en route to Dundee, with evening entertainment and traditional Scottish country dancing.
This morning, the train crosses the Tay Bridge to Edinburgh. Visit the iconic Royal Yacht Britannia with a guided tour and lunch, or explore the city at your ow leisure. Rejoin the train and travel west to Craigendoran, enjoying afternoon tea along Gare Loch. Continue north through Crianlarich, Bridge of Orchy and Rannoch Moor. Arrive at Spean Bridge for an informal dinner and lively entertainment in the Observation Car.
As the train continues west, take in the views of Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest peak. Disembark at Arisaig for a walk along Morar Sands, then enjoy lunch on board. Visit Glenfinnan with a local guide, or hike Nevis Gorge. Return to Fort William, relax on board and enjoy an informal dinner as the train travels south.
After departing Bridge of Orchy, enjoy Highland scenery on the way to Glasgow and a ferry crossing to the Isle of Bute. Explore Mount Stuart, a Victorian Gothic house with striking interiors and gardens. After an afternoon tea, relax on board before a formal dinner and evening entertainment in the Observation Car, concluding with farewell drinks.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast as you head back to Waverley Station, Edinburgh.

All prices shown are for one adult ticket. Sleeper journeys are based on two adults sharing accommodation. Single occupancy of cabins may incur additional charge.

This is done so the operators can add you to their guest list, send you your tickets and ensure the meals served to you onboard meet your dietary requirements. There are a limited number of private tables and cabin types onboard. While we keep our website updated regularly, there may be occasions when private tables or cabin types become fully booked meaning we are unable to fulfil your booking requirements. Should this be the case, we will contact you to discuss alternative options and refund any payments made.
We have the right to refuse the request of a deposit when a journey is scheduled to depart in less than 16 weeks. If you choose to book with a deposit you must pay the remaining balance in full 15 weeks before departure at the latest. Should you fail to pay the remaining balance 15 weeks prior to departure, you will forfeit your deposit and your booking. Deposits are accepted by request. Most journeys require a 25% deposit to secure a booking however some specialist journeys do require a 50% deposit. Please contact us for confirmation.
Tickets are sent electronically around 5 days before departure. You will not receive tickets or any form of 'gift pack' in the post. This is in an attempt to reduce paper use and do our part for the environment.
