DAY ONE

This culinary adventure begins when the train departs Edinburgh City and crosses the magnificent Forth Railway Bridge. Settle into the train’s elegant Edwardian carriages and enjoy a welcoming afternoon tea hosted by Coinneach MacLeod, better known as the Hebridean Baker. Born and raised on the Isle of Lewis, Coinneach shares stories inspired by traditional family recipes and the flavours of the Scottish islands.

As evening falls, dinner is served while the train travels towards Keith. The menu showcases exceptional local ingredients, such as wild halibut, hand-dived scallops and Aberdeen Angus beef.

After dinner, relax in the Observation Car where local musicians perform traditional Gaelic songs and folk melodies.

DAY TWO

Wake to beautiful views as the train travels west along the Moray Firth, passing through Inverness. Begin the day with a whisky tasting hosted by the Royal Scotsman’s Whisky Ambassador in the Observation Car.

Lunch is served as the train makes her way along one of Britain’s most scenic railway routes, with spectacular views of Loch Luichart and the dramatic Torridon Mountains.

In the charming coastal village of Plockton, enjoy a boat trip to see the resident colony of wild seals before sampling fresh local seafood accompanied by craft ale and a dram of Talisker whisky from the nearby Isle of Skye distillery.

Rejoin the train in Kyle of Lochalsh and prepare for a formal dinner on board, followed by coffee and liqueurs in the Observation Car.

DAY THREE

Early risers can join a refreshing morning walk across the Skye Bridge, enjoying spectacular coastal views before returning to the train for breakfast as it retraces part of yesterday’s route through Plockton.

Later, disembark at Garve for a guided walk with a local storyteller who will share fascinating insights into the area’s folklore.

The afternoon includes a visit to Tomatin Distillery, where you will learn about the craft of Highland whisky production during a tour and tasting.

That evening, after rejoining the train at Boat of Garten, enjoy a wine masterclass hosted by L'Art du Vin, focusing on organic and biodynamic wines.

DAY FOUR

This morning, travel by coach into the heart of the Cairngorms National Park to visit the beautiful Rothiemurchus Estate. Here you will meet food anthropologist Ghillie Basan and her son Zeki Basan, founder of Highland Survival Skills.

Choose from a variety of outdoor activities, including fishing, archery, clay pigeon shooting or a foraging walk with Zeki, where you will learn about traditional Highland survival techniques and the edible plants of the region.

Lunch is a highlight of the journey: a Highland barbecue feast with whisky pairings, accompanied by Ghillie’s fascinating stories about Scotland’s culinary heritage.

Later, rejoin the Royal Scotsman for a spectacular farewell evening. A gala dinner is prepared by celebrated Michelin-starred Scottish chef Lorna McNee, providing a fitting finale to your gourmet journey.

DAY FIVE

Enjoy your final breakfast on board as the train crosses the Tay Bridge into the Kingdom of Fife, before arriving back in Edinburgh, where your unforgettable Royal Scotsman journey comes to an end.
