Soon after departure, the first of many gastronomic pleasures awaits. Savour a traditional Cornish Afternoon Tea as the train glides through the scenic North Wessex Downs and past the charming Somerset market towns of Frome and Taunton—an idyllic introduction to the English countryside.
As evening draws near, the train arrives at the historic West Somerset Railway, a 20-mile stretch of heritage track winding through rolling countryside en route to the medieval village of Dunster. Begin your day with a leisurely brunch, served as the Britannic Explorer glides through the serene English countryside. Today’s journey takes you to the scenic south coast of Devon, where you’ll join the famed Riviera Line—a stretch of track renowned for its dramatic views along the coastline. Gaze out over the sea as you pass through charming seaside towns such as Teignmouth and along the iconic Dawlish Sea Wall.
Skirting the edge of Dartmoor National Park, the train continues to Plymouth before crossing into Cornwall—known locally as Kernow. The final leg to Penzance is truly captivating, with glimpses of the shimmering sea and coastal landscapes unfolding through the windows as you travel via St Austell and Truro.
After lunch, choose your own adventure. Disembark at St Erth for an excursion to the artistic enclave of St Ives, or remain on board to reach Penzance, where a guided tour of the extraordinary Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens awaits. Here, you'll encounter Aqua Oscura, a mesmerising installation by James Turrell set within a repurposed Victorian water tank, offering a surreal new perspective of the sky and surrounding canopy. Later, rejoin the Britannic Explorer in Fowey and relax as the train makes its way through the countryside towards the delightful market town of Bruton in Somerset. Explore its thought-provoking exhibitions on a private guided tour, followed by a refined drinks reception and a specially curated dinner within the gallery’s stunning setting.
As the evening draws to a close, the train comes to rest on the peaceful tracks of the East Somerset Railway, offering a serene and stylish end to the day’s adventures.
Breakfast is served as the train sets off on its journey back to London. You will arrive at Victoria Station in the early morning, prepared to carry on with your day feeling refreshed and revitalised.
