First time in Glasgow?
If you’re specifically travelling to Glasgow to join the Northern Belle, it’s well worth arriving a little early or sticking around a while after. A place where unique architecture meets vibrant nightlife, Glasgow is the place to go for live music, amazing food and warm hospitality. Here are a couple of our recommendations:
The Burrell Collection
The museum’s diverse collection was assembled over many years by Sir William Burrell, a wealthy Glasgow shipping magnate and passionate art collector, together with his wife, Constance, Lady Burrell. In 1944, they gifted the entire collection to the City of Glasgow Corporation. Throughout his life, Sir William frequently lent pieces from his collection to special exhibitions and museum displays. By the 1930s, he had resolved to donate his entire collection for the public to enjoy.
More of the Collection is now on display than ever before, with vibrant new galleries that bring each object to life through over 90 digital exhibits. The refurbished museum offers interactive and immersive experiences designed to engage visitors of all ages.
The new displays also share the fascinating story of Sir William Burrell and his family, the visionaries behind the Collection.
Dynamic, hands-on exhibits showcase treasures such as Chinese dynastic ceramics, medieval stained glass, and Impressionist masterpieces in fresh and captivating ways.
Glasgow Botanic Gardens
A beautiful botanical garden located in the West End of Glasgow, Scotland. It features several glasshouses, the most notable of which is the Kibble Palace. All areas of the Botanic Gardens are free to enter. The Gardens are open from 7 am to dusk all year.
Live Music Scene
When we say that the music scene is thriving in Glasgow, we really mean it. The city is passionate about all genres, ranging from rock and folk to disco and dance. The most iconic venues include King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, The Howlin' Wolf and Blue Dog, but at the weekend, the majority of pubs and bars will be showing live music of some kind. For a more relaxed vibe, try The Lauder's or Malones
