Our handy guide on what to wear on board this iconic train
With its restored 1920s Art Deco carriages and rich history, the legendary Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is a place where old-world glamour is appreciated and fully encouraged. You may be wondering what to pack for a journey on board an icon like this, so read on for our handy guide on what to wear on the Orient Express.
The Golden Rule: You Can Never Be Overdressed
The same rule applies for all of Belmond’s trains: You truly can never be overdressed on board. If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to wear your finest floor-length evening dress or your classic tuxedo, this is it.
Daytime: Smart & Elegant Chic
The dress code during the day is smart casual. Think sophisticated yet comfortable. The daytime will be spent relaxing, eating, drinking and watching the European countryside roll by, so comfort is key, but your clothing should still be smart.
For Women
- Tailored trousers, elegant blouses, chic midi dresses, or sophisticated wrap dresses. Fine knitwear or a blazer is perfect for layering, as temperatures can fluctuate.
- Elegant flats, loafers, or sensible low heels. (Keep in mind the train moves, so stiletto heels can be tricky while walking through the corridors!)

For Men
- A smart jacket or blazer paired with trousers and a collared shirt.
- Footwear: Leather loafers, brogues, or Oxford shoes.
