Orient Express day trips are perfect for making memories and ideal for those who want to spend less than an Orient Express Holiday. A day trip on a luxury train is equally a exciting as a sleeper journey, the only difference being of course the lack of sleeper carriages and the journey only lasting a day. Aside from these differences, the level of luxury are still very much alike.
Luxury day trips are ideal for special occasions, or simply to say that you have ridden on a 1920’s or 1930’s luxury train. With so many options available, it’s easy to see why luxury train journeys are becoming more and more popular.
There are two main types of luxury journey; one’s with excursions and one’s without. Both offer the same levels of luxury, the only difference being while one journey may take you to a destination such as a landmark city, a stately home or garden, the other is more of a focus on the meals being served onboard.
All meals served on the train are prepared fresh onboard by chefs in the kitchen car. The food served varies depending on the journey, but ranges from brunches, lunches, afternoon tea, even a seven-course dinner. Every journey includes a meal and those with excursions usually include a brunch on the outward journey and a four-course dinner on the return journey.
Journeys with excursions therefore do tend to be more expensive, but not by much. Luxury day trips tend to start at around £250 per person for an afternoon tea onboard while the train takes you on a scenic journey. A journey including an excursion and two meals tends to cost around £400 - £500 per person but also includes admission to wherever the train is taking you.
The beauty of these journeys is everything is included in the price. Your ticket includes the journey, any meals mentioned in the itinerary and entry to wherever your journey may be taking you, if you decide to go on an excursion. The only thing additional you would need to pay for are additional drinks at the bar, however all journeys usually include half a bottle of wine per person and champagne, so it’s really up to you if you require a top-up.
Other extras also included with most journeys are coffee, tea, petits fours, champagne on arrival and your meal as outlined in your journey. Some journeys may include a celebrity chef, so you may have the opportunity to meet them as well, which some may say is priceless.
Once you have paid for your ticket, it’s quite possible not to have to spend a penny more in order to enjoy your day. For most, everything that you could need is included in the journey and with all the meals included, you’ll be sure to be well-fed.
Luxury day trips visit many locations all across the UK. From famous British cities such as Bath and York as well as stately homes such as Chatsworth House, there is a very large selection of journeys to choose from. Special events are also sometimes included in the calendar such as the Goodwood Revival and Royal Ascot.
Luckily, availability is good for almost all of our journeys and nearly all day trips run multiple times throughout the year. The trains embark on journeys multiple times a month, apart from January where they are deep-cleaned and any maintenance is performed. Therefore finding an ideal place to visit at a time of the year to suit you should be quite straight forward, the tricky part is narrowing down your choice!
Sister to the famous Venice Simplon Orient Express, the British Pullman is an elegant 1920’s luxury day train that offers exceptional levels of opulence and glamour. Offering similar levels of lavishness to our sleeper trains, just without the sleeper carriages, the British Pullman is made up from 11 beautifully restored authentic carriages, each with their own name and exquisite interior detail.
With private tables for two, tables for four or even four-seat private compartments, the British Pullman is an exquisite train that can cater for up to 226 passengers at a time. With it’s beautiful wood inlays and charming décor, the British Pullman is guaranteed to leave you with lasting memories you’ll cherish forever.
Departing exclusively from London Victoria, the British Pullman embarks on journeys all across the UK. For the most part, the routes are scenic, offering exceptional views of the British countryside as you enjoy your meal onboard or relax with a glass of your favourite beverage. All journeys are round-trips and passengers return back to London Victoria the same day.
For journeys without an excursion, the British Pullman takes passengers on a scenic route through Kent before heading south along the coast and back North to London again. A beautifully scenic journey that takes between three and six hour depending on the journey you have chosen.
The British Pullman embarks on journeys usually two or three times a week meaning availability is good throughout the year. Some journeys, such as those to Goodwood or Royal Ascot, do get booked up more quickly than others, sometimes selling out months in advance.
While availability is largely good, we would always recommend booking as far in advance as possible. This gives you peace of mind that your booking is secured and gives you something to look forward to!
Below you’ll find a very small selection of our journeys, however you can always browse all of our British Pullman journeys for all available dates and journeys.
A beautifully restored luxury train from the 1930’s, the Northern Belle offers a similar experience to the British Pullman with the choice of luxury train journeys with or without an excursion. The main difference with the Northern Belle is it departs from all over the North of England from multiple locations, rather than just one exclusive departure station.
Departing further North, the Northern Belle still offers a range of journeys throughout the UK with some going into Scotland to visit Edinburgh. In some instances, the Northern Belle also visits the same locations as the British Pullman, so it may be worth comparing the two if there was a particular place you wished to visit.
Made up of seven beautiful carriages, the Northern Belle offers a range of seating layouts, making it ideal for travelling with friends and family. All meals are included and vary from lunches to multiple-course dinners, all prepared fresh onboard by talented chefs in the kitchen car. As with all our luxury journeys, your ticket price includes steward service who are on hand to assist in any way you require.
The Northern Belle is very much about elegance and luxury. As you sit back in your armchair with drink in hand, you may feel as though you are sitting in the lounge of a five star hotel. Unlike a hotel however, you are able to enjoy the ever-changing view as it passes by your window as you are whisked through the beautiful British countryside.
We’re pleased to offer hundreds of luxury day trips onboard two of the world’s most authentic and luxurious day trains. Beautifully restored, these 1920’s and 1930’s trains will take you back to the Golden Age of Travel, to a time where opulence and luxury was everywhere you look.
